Troy Grennan, MD MSc FRCPC, is an infectious diseases physician, and currently the Physician Lead, HIV/STI Program, at the BC Centre for DIsease Control. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Following medical school at McMaster University, Dr. Grennan completed specialty training in internal medicine at the University of Toronto, and specialty training in infectious diseases and medical microbiology at McMaster University, as well as tropical and travel medicine certification at the Gorgas Institute in Peru. His clinical training was followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Canadian HIV Trials Network examining anal cancer screening in men living with HIV. Dr. Grennan’s current research interests include novel methods for the prevention of syphilis and other sexually transmitted infections, and focus on the health of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM). He currently co-leads a large CIHR team grant (the HPV Screening and Vaccine Evaluation, or HPV-SAVE, study) looking at anal cancer prevention, screening, and treatment of anal pre-cancers in MSM living with HIV, the population at highest risk for anal cancer. He also co-leads two studies on the novel use of daily antibiotic use for the prevention of syphilis and other STIs in those at risk of acquiring these.
